The ICT Ireland Undergraduate Internship Programme, which is being run in association with the Higher Education Authority (HEA), is an ICT industry-wide programme. It involve a two-day week placement for undergraduates in ICT degree courses over the two final years of their course. Why a two day week? The two day week allows the student to build his or her relationship with the host company over a two year period. It gives students the opportunity to map the theory they learn in their course to practical projects, and to make money without having to resort to casual employment. Why this new programme? This programme is not being devised to replace the existing internship programmes in operation (such as co-op programme where students are on block placements). It will be in addition to it, to create a wider pool of graduates in required disciplines in the long-term. What is the timeframe? · Institutions advertise their programmes in March · ICT companies interview students for placement in their companies in April · Third year students to commence placement in September/October How do I find out more?
